I have put together a list of my top 10 albums of 2024. You can check that out below. This is just for fun and I know I probably left out some of your favorites, but these are all of the albums that I enjoyed the most this year:
01. Knocked Loose – “You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To”:
Knocked Loose’s latest album is a massive piece of work that pretty much delivers on every front. It’s heaviness and brutality matched by it’s stellar production and cathartic lyrics make for an intense listening experience the whole way through. Highlights from this one include: “Don’t Reach for Me,” “Sit And Mourn,” “Suffocate” (feat. Poppy), and “Slaughterhouse 2” (feat. Chris Motionless).
02. Wristmeetrazor – “Degeneration”:
Wristmeetrazor’s latest album takes the band’s nostalgic form of nü-metal tinged metalcore to the next level. The tracks are just as vicious as they are catchy and you can’t help but crave for more. Highlights from this one include: “Trepanation,” “Xeroxed Reflection,” “Static Reckoning,” and “Turn On, Tune In, Drop Dead.”
03. Vended – “Vended “:
Vended, the band featuring Griffin Taylor and Simon Crahan, the sons of Slipknot’s Corey Taylor and M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan, finally released their self-titled debut album this year and it is nothing short of the intense nü-metal one would expect from the offspring of one of metal’s biggest acts. The effort is reminiscent of their fathers’ early work, but it still has its own flair and proves the group were willing to put the work in rather than riding on Slipknot’s coattails. Highlights from this one include: “Nihilism,” “The Far Side,” “Am I The Only One,” and “Serenity.”
04. New Years Day – “Half Black Heart”:
New Years Day’s latest album finds the band continuing to evolve, while maintaining their core elements. The effort offers fans a hooky display of hard rock with pop sensibilities that is enhanced by its deeply emotional and vulnerable lyrics. Highlights from this one include: “Hurts Like Hell,” “Bulletproof,” “I Still Believe,” and the title track.
05. Poppy – “Negative Spaces”:
Poppy’s latest album is her strongest release to date. The effort features a fresh take on the metalcore sound with elements of synth-pop, 90’s rock, and more ingrained in its DNA. The infectious nature of the material combined with a vulnerable concept creates a piece of art that is sure to take the singer to new heights. Highlights from this one include: “Vital,” “Surviving On Defiance,” “The Center’s Falling Out,” and the title track.
06. Kerry King – “From Hell I Rise”:
Slayer guitarist Kerry King and his solo band, vocalist Mark Osegueda (Death Angel), guitarist Phil Demmel (ex-Machine Head), bassist Kyle Sanders (HELLYEAH), and drummer Paul Bostaph (Slayer), came out swinging with their debut album. The effort is a full-on thrash assault that does a perfect job at picking up where Slayer left off. Highlights from this one include: “Where I Reign,” “Crucifixation,” “Two Fists,” and the title track.
07. Unto Others – “Never, Neverland”:
Unto Others’ latest album takes fans on a metal-tinged, gothic rock journey. The record is chock-full of spooktacular and infectious anthems that keep you captivated across its running time. Highlights from this one include: “Momma Likes The Door Closed,” “Suicide Today,” “When The Kids Get Caught,” and the title track.
08. Green Day – “Saviors”:
Green Day’s latest album is everything fans want from the band, massive songs with catchy hooks and relevant lyrics. The effort finds the band returning to the heights of their biggest releases, “Dookie” and “American Idiot,” making for something that is sure to be another classic. Highlights from this one include: “Strange Days Are Here To Stay,” “One Eyed Bastard,” Dilemma,” and “Bobby Sox.”
09. Bring Me the Horizon – “POST HUMAN: NeX GEn”:
Bring Me The Horizon’s latest album finds them continuing to push musical boundaries through a mix of post-hardcore, hyperpop, metal, and more to create a “future emo” cocktail. The diversity within the material combined with its poignant lyrics make for an emotional rollercoaster the whole way through. Highlights from this one include: “Kool-Aid,” “Top 10 staTues tHat CriEd bloOd,” “liMOusIne,” and “DIg It.”
10. Mothica – “Kissing Death”:
