Queen’s Catalog To Be Acquired By Sony Music

According to Variety, Sony Music have made a deal to acquire the rights to Queen’s catalog for £1 billion (around $1.27 billion). The agreement will include the band’s music and all related intellectual property. It will not include revenue from live shows. Notably, Disney and Universal Music Group will still retain the rights to distribute Queen’s albums in North America. However, the remaining royalties will now go to Sony Music. In other territories, the rights are expected to transfer from UMG to Sony Music in 2026 or 2027.
