Metal Anarchy’s New Music Showcase: Exclusive Q&A With Heathen Hearts

Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to bands that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with Juhana Haavisto of Heathen Hearts.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:

HAAVISTO: Heathen Hearts are:

Antti Nissilä: Vocals
Jere Orre: Guitars and backing vocals
Lauri Sillanpää: Guitars and backing vocals
Juhana Haavisto: Bass
Ville Nissinen: Drums

Heathen Hearts is a metallic hardcore band from Finland. We all are experienced musicians who have backgrounds from different kinds of bands. This band was formed originally to play a Turbonegro cover gig in a local Turbojugend fanclub party in 2020 but Covid ruined that so in 2021 our drummer Ville suggested that we could start making our own music and play metallic hardcore. Everyone got excited and here we are.

METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?

HAAVISTO: From hardcore scene names like Terror, Comeback Kid and Get The Shot. But we take influences also from melodic death metal and even black metal. That’s why we define our music “Northern hardcore.”

METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?

HAAVISTO: We released our debut self-titled EP in May 2022. The release was accompanied by two music videos from the songs “Ichor” and “World Of Ash” that are featured for example in Hardcore Worldwide Youtube channel. Our music is aggressive and in-your-face melodic and metallic hardcore that has unique edge to it. It’s been really well received among listeners so far so check it out, you might like it. This is our first release and more is coming early next year.

METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?

HAAVISTO: Energetic and sweaty live shows.

METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?

HAAVISTO: We hope to have a couple of releases under our belt by then and be touring outside Finland. We would like to have established ourselves as a band that has a solid career.
