Metal Anarchy’s New Music Showcase: Exclusive Q&A With Polarity

Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to bands that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with Polarity.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:

POLARITY: Polarity is an alt-rock/alt-metal band that formed in 2009 by original members Michael Sitana and Jasmine Virginia. The band has played hundreds of shows across Canada and a few along the northern United States. Like our namesake we enjoy blending opposites into our music. Driving heavy hitting choruses followed by transcendental atmospheric verses. The powerful, angelic singing of Jasmine against the harsh and guttural screams of bassist Deren Bostanci. And a rhythmic groove of drummer Julian Craig with the arpeggiated, intricate leads of lead guitarist Sheldon Fernandes. We pride ourselves in having a sound for every form of listener whether you enjoy metal, hip hop or folk-acoustic, Polarity has something for you.

METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?

POLARITY: All of our members come from different musical backgrounds and while our members have their own influences for their play-styles. Polarity as a whole I’d say is strongly influenced by the likes of Tool & Dream Theater. For fans of those bands, you’ll notice a similar style in our own songs from the off-time beats to the dreamlike arpeggiated riffs. And when it comes to vocals, the world is our main influence. From personal experiences to worldwide events we take them all into account when delving into the themes of our songs.

METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?

POLARITY: We worked on three “Live Off the Floor” singles that were recorded at Jukasa Studios here in Ontario, CA. The first two singles have already been released (“Destruction of Memory” & “Terra Firma”) and can be listened to on all streaming platforms globally, with the 3rd releasing at the end of August! We decided to stray away from the traditional form of recording in a studio this time around just because the world had been shut down from live music for so long. We wanted to give the fans that raw, live energy that they are accustomed to when they see a Polarity concert and we felt having these singles recorded live off the floor would provide them with exactly that.

METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?

POLARITY: The equivalent of touching a live wire, just without the potential death. Our live shows are pure raw energy with a wall of blissful sound hitting fans ears from the get-go. Stages have never really been able to contain us and if you’re someone who has attended one of our concerts, you’ll be well aware of this. Jasmine and Deren tend to wander off into the crowd and interact with fans mid performance leaving the stage open for Sheldon and Michael with their dueling guitar riffs. Even drummer Julian has a hard time keeping his rear in his seat just due to the absolute adrenaline that begins flowing once the set has commenced. Overall, we’re here to perform, we’re here to impress, we’re here to bring smiles to faces and we can guarantee you’ll have a great time.

METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?

POLARITY: Hopefully traveling the world and bringing our music to as many ears as possible. We’ll be going into the studio again this Winter to start working on our next studio full length album and with that releasing next year who knows where the future will take us. We’ve always wanted to do a cross European tour and even go to Japan. We know we have lots of fans overseas and definitely want to make the time to perform for them and meet them in person.
