Metal Anarchy’s Music In The Age Of COVID-19 Series: Interview With Ocultum

Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “Music In The Age Of COVID-19” series, the feature where I discuss the ongoing pandemic with various musicians. This time I have an interview with Ocultum bassist Pablo Kataldo.

METAL ANARCHY: How have you been holding up during the coronavirus pandemic?

KATALDO: Like everyone else I guess. Taking care of ourselves and the ones we love. Trying not to die yet.

METAL ANARCHY: Have you been using your downtime to work on new music?

KATALDO: I guess time is always used to create, pandemic or no pandemic. At least it’s varied, in the band it’s been diverse. But the pandemic brought a lot of work, more than in “normal” times. But yes, in this time you are working on new things and we hope they will come out soon!

METAL ANARCHY: What was the last show you played or attended before the shutdown?

KATALDO: Our last show was the live release of Residue in Crearock (A venue in Santiago centro, Chile), with a lot of people, was amazing!

METAL ANARCHY: Are you planning to play any livestream concerts during this time?

KATALDO: A couple of months ago we had a show On.Line via streaming, which was quite profitable and we managed to do it by hand, in our rehearsal room. At that time we had a bass player in session and it was a good experience. We don’t have a date for another streaming yet, but it’s always there.

METAL ANARCHY: Do you think the live entertainment industry will ever recover?

KATALDO: Eventually it will recover, pandemics are cyclical, we have had pandemics and health problems throughout our humanity. So yes, I think it will recover slowly, but now it is necessary to continue to take care and overcome this pandemic.

METAL ANARCHY: Lastly, is there anything fans can do to help your band or others that may be struggling during this time?

KATALDO: Yes, buy their albums, support their concerts in streaming, subscribe to their channels and platfrms, and finally, stay tuned in their music. Stay DooM!…..
