Metal Anarchy’s Music In The Age Of COVID-19 Series: Interview With Siren’s Rain

Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “Music In The Age Of COVID-19” series, the feature where I discuss the ongoing pandemic with various musicians. This time I have an interview with Siren’s Rain.

METAL ANARCHY: How have you been holding up during the coronavirus pandemic?

SIREN’S RAIN: It was a really strange phenomenon, seeing each other all of the time and going to making music by distance. We tried, Zoom, Skype, and Discord. We used the time to practice and learn new instruments and complete writing of our first full-length album.

METAL ANARCHY: Have you been using your downtime to work on new music?

SIREN’S RAIN: We sure have. We write music the “old school way”, by jamming it out. We don’t do what a lot of bands do with having one songwriter who writes on a computer. We prefer to jam out and sketch our songs. We have had to make adjustments during the lockdowns, and that has been a challenge.

METAL ANARCHY: What was the last show you played or attended before the shutdown?

SIREN’S RAIN: We played a really unique event called Metal on Metal, where metal bands provide a live soundtrack for armoured combat fighting. We have played this Seattle event twice, and it’s so different from anything else out there. This was February 2019.

METAL ANARCHY: Are you planning to play any livestream concerts during this time?

SIREN’S RAIN: We had one planned, and then we had a COVID exposure within the band, but also with the livestream production crew, so we were unable to make that happen.

METAL ANARCHY: Do you think the live entertainment industry will ever recover?

SIREN’S RAIN: Like everything, it is shifting and evolving. When industries dip, people find creative ways to re-invigorate.

METAL ANARCHY: Lastly, is there anything fans can do to help your band or others that may be struggling during this time?

SIREN’S RAIN: Yes! Please follow us on all the platforms- Spotify, Facebook, Bandcamp, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok! Take advantage of Bandcamp Fridays and buy merch! Most importantly, share our music, and the music of artists you like on social media, Music is a participation sport.
