Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “Music In The Age Of COVID-19” series, the feature where I discuss the ongoing pandemic with various musicians. This time I have an interview with Disconnected Souls.

METAL ANARCHY: How have you been holding up during the coronavirus pandemic?

DISCONNECTED SOULS: On the whole we’ve all been holding up fairly well. We were all working from home / furloughed etc., during the lockdowns. It has affected our productivity with writing new music being unable to meet in person for so many months. It now feels a bit like we’re playing catch up and trying to finalize future tracks we started writing over a year ago (some even longer).

METAL ANARCHY: Have you been using your downtime to work on new music?

DISCONNECTED SOULS: Yes, Holly has been working on a number of demos for new songs by herself, and the guys have done bits here and there. It helps immensely that Fletch has a home studio, but he’s had a fair number of technical difficulties (hopefully fixed now!) which were less than helpful. We’re now getting back into the swing of things with group writing sessions which is great.

METAL ANARCHY: What was the last show you played or attended before the shutdown?

DISCONNECTED SOULS: We haven’t as yet played a show as Disconnected Souls – we had thought 2020 might have been the year (oh the irony). The last gig Holly and Fletch attended was New Years Day in Manchester.

METAL ANARCHY: Are you planning to play any livestream concerts during this time?

DISCONNECTED SOULS: We don’t have any plans for this at the present. A livestream would be great to do even if it’s post-pandemic. The accessibility of livestreams for fans around the world has really been demonstrated so I think they’ll stick around alongside live shows when they return.

METAL ANARCHY: Do you think the live entertainment industry will ever recover?

DISCONNECTED SOULS: It will, but how quickly that happens is very difficult to determine. Unfortunately, it may get worse before it improves. People love live music and events so there will always be an interest for them.

METAL ANARCHY: Lastly, is there anything fans can do to help your band or others that may be struggling during this time?

DISCONNECTED SOULS: Purchasing music and merchandise is a fantastic way to support artists and give them some sort of income. If you’re not in a position to do so, just stream their music, share it, follow and interact with bands on social media. It all helps with the algorithms. We always appreciate everyone who supports us in whatever way they choose to do so!
