Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “Music In The Age Of COVID-19” series, the feature where I discuss the ongoing pandemic with various musicians. This time I have an interview with Darkest Horizon.
METAL ANARCHY: How have you been holding up during the coronavirus pandemic?
DARKEST HORIZON: Actually we did quite well. Of course we had to cancel all shows and most plans we had (as everyone else too) but we used this time to improve our workflow. We wrote new songs, recorded, did promotional work… so it could have been way worse though it of course wasn’t our favorite year.
METAL ANARCHY: Have you been using your downtime to work on new music?
DARKEST HORIZON: Yes, that’s most of what we did. We started recording by ourselves, improved our rehearsal and recording situation in general and combined this with new songs and new ideas.
METAL ANARCHY: What was the last show you played or attended before the shutdown?
DARKEST HORIZON: The last show was Chaostraum 2019. Wow, 2019… now I realize how long it has been!
METAL ANARCHY: Are you planning to play any livestream concerts during this time?
DARKEST HORIZON: No, we discussed livestream concerts but decided to not play any (at least currently). We want to wait until real live shows come back and then have a great time live (and the longer you wait, the more amazing it should be).
METAL ANARCHY: Do you think the live entertainment industry will ever recover?
DARKEST HORIZON: Definitely. This year was hard for a lot of people in the industry and the industry itself, but historically live entertainment has seen worse than Corona. Live events survived pandemics, wars and worse. It will take time and effort, but it will come back. And I think we will see a revival of live entertainment, even better than it used to be before Corona -for now everybody wants to go to live shows. A situation which has been pretty different two or three years ago.
METAL ANARCHY: Lastly, is there anything fans can do to help your band or others that may be struggling during this time?
DARKEST HORIZON: Yes, the very best thing you can do for the band you love is supporting them! Buy their merch, share their music, everything helps. And thank you so much to all of you who helped us, or other bands, and keep supporting us! You keep this music and this scene alive and awesome!
