Twitch Mutes Metallica’s Performance At BlizzCon Due To Copyright Concerns

Yesterday (February 19), Metallica performed “For Whom The Bell Tolls” as part of the virtual BlizzCon. However, during the livestream on Twitch, the audio ended up getting cut and replaced with 8-bit folk music due to copyright concerns under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). Irritated fans expressed their frustrations on social media, while also pointing out that Metallica’s 2000 legal battle with Napster played a role in shaping current copyright laws.

Despite the Twitch debacle, it appears the YouTube stream worked as planned;
