Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “Music In The Age Of COVID-19” series, the feature where I discuss the ongoing pandemic with various musicians. This time I have an interview with Marcello Lega of Søndag.
METAL ANARCHY: How have you been holding up during the coronavirus pandemic?
LEGA: In the past months everything turned upside down in our lives. We were unable to make reharsals and obviously meet in the first place. The only thing that kept us going, was to use the spare time we had for making new music and mix the last songs that we recorded just before February.
METAL ANARCHY: Have you been using your downtime to work on new music?
LEGA: Absolutely! We crafted our last song “Titans” entirely into our national lockdown timeframe, that was something “unique” in a certain way. In the meanwhile we have recorded a lot of different riffs and ideas which will give birth to new songs in the upcoming months.
METAL ANARCHY: What was the last show you played or attended before the shutdown?
LEGA: We started the recording process a while before all of this pandemic, in order to quit playing the same songs live and focus ourselves on the process of making some new stuff. This is the reason why our last show was summer 2019 in Bergamo at Bikers festival.
METAL ANARCHY: Are you planning to play any livestream concerts during this time?
LEGA: We thought much about this option, but we came up with the decision that this isn’t exactly something that we feel “ours”, if you know what I mean. We prefer to wait until the waters calm down, and play again live in the next future (hopefully).
METAL ANARCHY: Do you think the live entertainment industry will ever recover?
LEGA: Though question mate.. I really hope so, even If I think that what we’ll see after, will be a twisted version of what we were used to see before.
METAL ANARCHY: Lastly, is there anything fans can do to help your band or others that may be struggling during this time?
LEGA: Supporting each other as always, since the underground scene is nothing without it. Spreading the news all over the social medias, buying stuff, remain updated with the activities of the bands.
