Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to bands that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with Dax Dabs and Johnny Skulls of Above Snakes.
METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:
DAX DABS: After years of living in the filth among shady, ego driven Villains in Los Angeles, we decided we weren’t going to take it anymore. Following orders and getting in line was now a way of the past. We packed our bags and made our way back to Boston, destined to rise above and create our own future…
We released our debut single “Adrenaline” back on July 17th along with an animated visualizer. We’re big sports fans and always enjoy a good party smoking some great weed / dabs and don’t forget the whiskey!
METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?
JOHNNY SKULLS: My main influences are Metallica, Limp Bizkit, (both James Hetfield and Fred Durst are big influences vocally), Korn, P.O.D., Guns N’ Roses, and Blink-182.
DAX DABS: Very similar to Johnny’s, huge fan of Korn, Limp Bizkit, Papa Roach, Blink-182, Five Finger Death Punch. For me personally as a guitarist, I’ve been influenced by a lot of guitar players over the years:
– Ian D’Sa – Billy Talent
– Zoltan Bathory – 5FDP
– Barry Stock – Three Days Grace
– Wes Borland – Limp Bizkit
– Tom Delonge – Blink-182 / AVA
– Lee Malia – Bring Me The Horizon
– Rabea Massaad – Toska / Dorje
Tons more, but those are my absolute favorites!
METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?
JOHNNY SKULLS: Our latest release “Adrenaline” which came out back on July 17th, is a high energy, in your face anthem of not giving a fuck and living life how you want! It is also our debut single, so show some love and go spin it!!
METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?
JOHNNY SKULLS: They can expect a high energy atmosphere with a loud as fuck performance..always leaving you with something to remember. See you in 2021!!
METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?
DAX DABS: I think in five years we’ll still be doing the same things we do now, just on a larger scale. Making the best music we can possibly make, putting together the highest energy live performances, and talking to every single fan who takes time out of their day to show us love. Above Snakes is a way of life, and we’re going to get out there and show the world, one by one, what we’re all about!
