Metallica Donate Polar Music Prize Money To Three Charities

Metallica were honored with the Polar Music Prize during a ceremony at Konserthuset in Stockholm, Sweden on June 14 and as part of the prize the band received one million Swedish krona (just over $130,000 USD). Now, the group’s All Within My Hands foundation have announced that the money will divided between three charities, with 50 percent going towards Stockholm City Mission, 25 percent going towards World Childhood Foundation, and 25 percent going towards Afghanistan National Institute Of Music. Marie Ledin, managing director of the Polar Music Prize, told Billboard the following:

“Many of the Polar Music Prize Laureates over the years have donated their prize money to charity, It’s not something we ask of them, but we appreciate their generosity. I know my father, Stig Anderson, would be very happy and proud to know of our Laureates’ great charitable donations.”
