Family Of Late Slipknot Bassist Paul Gray Obtain Settlement In Overdose Lawsuit

According to The Des Moines Register, the family of Slipknot’s Paul Gray has obtained a settlement from the health care providers that they say were to blame for the late bassist’s drug-overdose. Gray died in May 2010 at an Urbandale hotel, where he overdosed on multiple drugs, including fentanyl and morphine. His family filed a wrongful death suit against Dr. Daniel Baldi, a pain-relief specialist who had been treating Gray, and his former employers UnityPoint-Des Moines. Baldi denied the claims that said he was responsible for Gray’s death, and his lawyer noted that the drugs Gray overdosed on were not prescribed by Baldi. Polk County prosecutors had “charged Baldi with 10 criminal counts of involuntary manslaughter,” due to him allegedly “prescribing large amounts of addictive pills to patients who showed clear signs of drug abuse.” Despite this, he was acquitted in 2014. Gray‘s widow Brenna’s original case was dismissed by the courts due to the length of time she took to file it. However, a charge filed on behalf of Gray‘s daughter October was allowed to proceed last year, and was set to go to trial this week, until it was settled this past weekend. Baldi has sinced gotten his medical license back, and is now working as an anesthesiologis in the Des Moines, Iowa area.
