Considering the October 1 massacre that left 59 dead and over 500 injured at the Route 91 Harvest festival in Las Vegas, NV, a fan asked Machine Head’s Robb Flynn about gun control during a livestream. The frontman answered by saying he supports gun control and that he doesn’t even “want to fucking play ‘Davidian‘ again.”
Here’s Flynn’s full statemnet:
“I am in favor of gun control. That motherfucker—everybody heard about the horrible Las Vegas, the horrible horrible… That dude had 23 assault rifles in his fucking hotel room—that is fucking insane to me. That is fucking insane to me, you know? It’s a fucking horrible, it’s a horrible thing that happened in Las Vegas. It’s fucking appalling. When I first heard the news yesterday morning, I couldn’t even put it together…”
“This morning, I thought I don’t ever want to fucking play ‘Davidian‘ again, that’s what I thought this morning. I straight up was like—I even texted it to the dudes, like ‘I don’t want to ever play ‘Davidian‘ again’, like fuck man. It’s fucking crazy. We probably will, we didn’t discuss it and that’s just how I feel right at the moment, but I fucking… It’s some scary shit, it’s fucking crazy out there right now. What the fuck is going on with people right now? It’s fucking crazy.”
In lighter news, he also discussed the band’s new album “Catharsis.”
“To me this is the record that could have come after ‘The Burning Red‘. It’s really grooving, it’s really melodic. But with the production on ‘Burning Red‘ was like kinda stonery, pretty dark. This is more like classic Machine Head, ‘Blackening‘/’Burn My Eyes‘ type of production, so it has a different effect. It’s got the modern elements too, taking what we started doing with the classical elements and bringing those in on ‘I am Hell‘, ‘Locust‘ and ‘Now We Die‘ and stuff like that.
It’s kind of a melding of those two things. Like I’ve been telling everybody, you’re gonna hear me say this so many times, you’re gonna be sick of hearing me saying this: lower your expectations for the heaviness. It’s a very melodic record and in a lot of ways, it’s shorter songs, it’s simpler songs, so it’s definitely not gonna be ten minute songs left and right like, say, ‘The Blackening‘.”
A video for the title track will be filmed soon, and a January release date is planned.
