Smashing Pumpkins will soon be hitting the road with Marilyn Manson for a summer tour, and they will be joined by a familiar face behind the drum kit. In a new interview with USA Today, it was revealed that original drummer Jimmy Chamberlin would be returning to the group for the trek.
Billy Corgan said the following about Chamberlin’s drumming:
“You can’t just grab somebody and say, ‘Play drums on this Smashing Pumpkins song.’Jimmy’s drum parts are so incredibly technical and nuanced that it’s a very rare class of people that can step in and play.”
Chamberlin added:
“He [Corgan] asked if there was any way I’d consider coming back for the tour. It’s a great opportunity not only to celebrate the music, but to celebrate the friendship and the legacy.”
Corgan then said:
“I want to run a business more like it’s an open door. It’s so great, because Jimmy and I are able to engage strictly on the road ahead – what songs are we playing, when do we start rehearsing.”
Chamberlin will only be onboard for this particular tour, and has no plans to permanently return to the band.
