This year’s Pitfest in Emmen, NET was unable to move forward after a fan died during Gorilla Biscuits’ set. The incident was related to “natural causes.”

Organizers commented [translated from Dutch]:
“Statement on behalf of the Pitfest organization
It is with great sadness that we must announce that one of our visitors passed away during Pitfest.
During the performance of Gorilla Biscuits, someone became unwell on the premises. Despite the rapid response of the emergency services and medical professionals present, unfortunately, help came too late. It was later determined that the cause of death was natural.
Out of respect for the deceased, their family, friends, and everyone affected by this sad news, we decided to stop the live music at that moment.
Our thoughts go out to the bereaved. Words fail us at moments like these. We wish them much strength and courage in processing this loss.
We would also like to express our appreciation for the emergency responders, our staff, volunteers, and visitors who helped in any way during this profound situation.
Pitfest has always been a place where people come together around music, friendship, and togetherness. That is precisely why this loss touches us deeply.
On behalf of the entire organization,
Team Pitfest“
Cro-Mags’ Harley Flanagan also commented:
“I am hearing that there was a horrible incident at the show yesterday and that someone died
I do not know the details. My heart goes out to them, their family and friends.
People please be careful when stage diving, catch each other. And when people fall, help them up. We are all part of the same family.
I have never been a fan of “crowd killing ” It’s childish. That shit was invented by bullies who are starting fights and jumping people at shows.
Let’s try to prevent these
horrible things from happening”
Dark Funeral issued a statement as well:
“PITFEST!
Shortly after we began our set at Pitfest, we were informed of a serious medical emergency in the audience. The show was paused while medical personnel attended to the situation and a medical helicopter was called to the scene.
Sadly, we later received the news that the person had passed away due to natural causes. Out of respect for the deceased, their family, friends, and loved ones, the promoter made the decision to end the live program.
Our deepest condolences go out to everyone affected by this tragic loss.
We understand that many of you were looking forward to the show, and we sincerely hope you understand the circumstances. We hope to return in the future and give you the performance you deserved.
/ Dark Funeral”
