According to CBS8, the plane crashed in a residential neighborhood. They shared the following information regarding the accident:
“Police said the incident happened just before 4 a.m. in the area of Sample and Salmon Street. Over 10 homes were affected by the crash, according to SDPD. CBS 8 crews on the scene reported seeing large plane parts and heavy smoke around the neighborhood where the plane crashed.
The San Diego Police Department said at least two people are confirmed dead as a result of the crash and eight injured. Authorities believe all of the fatalities are people who were on the plane. SDFD said it was a privately owned Cessna aircraft, which was on its way to Montgomery Field. According to CBS News Senior Transportation and National Correspondent Kris Van Cleave, the plane was flying to San Diego from Wichita, Kansas.
It’s currently unknown how many people were on board the plane. SDFD is working in conjunction with the Federal Aviation Administration, California Highway Patrol, the San Diego Police Department, the National Transportation Safety Board and the military.”
