Sean Martinez has announced his departure from Decrepit Birth. The bassist decided to leave the group “to explore new horizons in music and bass playing.”
Martinez said the following:
“After a long and fulfilling journey, I’ve made the difficult decision to permanently leave Decrepit Birth as their bassist.
Since joining in 2012, I’ve had the privilege of touring with incredible musicians like 66Samus, Alex Bent and Gabe Seeber on drums, Chase Fraser and Matt Sotelo on Guitar and the legendary Bill Robinson (Decrepit Birth) on vocals. We also had Mac Smith on standby to fill in on vocals during Covid.
Writing and recording bass parts for Axis Mundi was an incredible experience, and that, along with touring, doing the play back and monitors, and eventually helping the band get some live recordings of the performances really contributed to my growth as a musician for which I’m eternally grateful!
After much reflection, I feel it’s time to explore new horizons in music and bass playing. I am available for session work and would consider joining another band in the future. I’m eager to dive into new projects and genres while also offering my skills in live sound and production—both at home and on the road.
I wish decrepit all the best moving forward and hope to see a new bassist step in to carry on the legacy. I’ll occasionally share videos of our live performances to keep the inspiration alive.
