Oxbow Premiere “The Second Talk” Video

Oxbow have premiered a new video for their song “The Second Talk.” That track appears on the band’s latest album “Love’s Holiday.”

Zev Deans, Adam Espino, Wolf Tijuana helped create the video with AI technology. According to Deans, the clip is “a haunting deconstruction of French new wave’s ‘Last Year At Marienbad’, via the cultural toilet bowl that is Artificial Intelligence.” Vocalist Eugene S. Robinson commented:

“I hear other artists complain about AI like it’s going to make us go broke when it steals our ‘jobs’. But with ‘The Second Talk‘ we’ve upended the table. Besides which we were already broke, as well as broken, and the video is a perfect reflection of that based as it is one of my favorite movies of all time: Last Year at Marienbad.”

Guitarist/keyboardist Niko Wenner added:

“The music for ‘The Second Talk‘ began like other songs on ‘Love’s Holiday‘, improvising on my father’s old nylon-string guitar to entertain my baby boy. My dad played that guitar singing folk songs for my mom and us kids, ‘The fox went out on the town one night’ etc. He said the guitar had been given to him by Ry Cooder’s mother, when long ago they worked together at UCLA hospital in Los Angeles.

It’s fitting somehow that this video references a French film – L’Année dernière à Marienbad – my Francophone mother would talk about, released about when that guitar came into our family. My son and his mother, my French wife Céline, both hold duel French and U.S. citizenship, she just earned the U.S. part. Of course, an Oxbow song needs a grinding slide-guitar – my old white strat – with a fever-vision video by the Terror Trio, Le Trio de la Terreur, or perhaps better, « Trio Terroir? » May our play, entertain you all. Que notre jeu vous divertisse tous.”
