Metal Anarchy’s New Music Showcase: Exclusive Q&A With Dymbur

Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to bands that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with Dymbur.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:

DYMBUR: We are a Khasi Thraat Indian Folk metal band from Shillong the capital of Meghalaya, a state from the North Eastern part of India. Khasi is the name of the tribe that we belong to and ‘Thraat’ is a word we coined to better describe our music in our native language. The name ‘Dymbur‘ is of Khasi origin which in English translates to a Fig tree. Dymbur was started by Founder Cornelius (guitarist ) and Mayson (bassist) over a decade alongside other members who were then pursuing a Progressive Djent genre and after a few line-up changes released our debut album ‘The legend of Thraat‘ in 2019. Post this release the band was to follow up with an Indian tour but the pandemic hit and this was when Cornelius the founder saw a different direction for the band and decided to pursue folk metal. It was this decision that led to the formation of the present Dymbur.

METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?

DYMBUR: Collectively as a band we listen to almost everything. These however are the bands we listen too quite regularly: Falling In Reverse, Sleep Token, I Prevail, Jinjer, Spiritbox, and Architects.

METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?

DYMBUR: Our latest release is “Back Home” a music video that talks about human rights, child prostitution, forced prostitution and the stigma and discrimination faced by the LGBTQ community. Why should people watch this? Well in this eye candy world where the pop/Dj culture has taken over, a few Acts dare step up to address such issues. DYMBUR is one of those acts and we will keep pushing because we know that there are still good people out there who care, people who are willing to go out of their way to help, to make a difference.

METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?

DYMBUR: People should be aware of our content. We talk of Rape, Child Abuse, Child marriage, forced prostitution and the list goes on. It is not easy to headbang to such content but the riffs and breakdowns will definitely get you to move and that’s ok because no metal fan should be deprived of a mosh pit or at least a good neck breaking headbang.

METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?

DYMBUR: That’s a tough one because the future is unpredictable. God forbid should we have another pandemic. Some of the band members have suffered beyond words but it was the music, the brotherhood that has given us the strength to heal and move. Nonetheless DYMBUR will keep pushing ahead.
