Metal Anarchy’s New Music Showcase: Exclusive Q&A With Ginger May

Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to artists that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with Ginger May.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:

GINGER MAY: In the beginning, Ginger May was an internet collaboration of Tanya, Satoshi, and some other musicians. Sometime after, the project began a new life in Tokyo, Japan. Ginger May today is the collaboration of four passionate musicians who came together because of the need to write and perform original music in different genres.

Ginger May has released two albums, one acoustic, to much fanfare from fans of dark music, as well as alternative music fans. Described as an electronic-industrial act, the band has incorporated funk, alternative rock, and hip-hop into their sound. The dark, melodic vocals of Tanya and the heavy, bouncing riffs of guitarist Satoshi, Ginger May is a unique mixture of both the dark and light;
a mix of genres made just right.

METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?

GINGER MAY: It is almost impossible to list everything that influenced us. We love classical music, pop and rock music from the 50s and 60s, and rock’n’roll. As for more modern music, maybe rock of the 90s is the biggest influence since we grew up in this era.

METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?

GINGER MAY: We released a new brand-new single, “Me and You” with an amazingly sweet music video just a few weeks ago. You can check them out everywhere. We have started a new chapter this year – recording with a new label, Messina Records. And we have changed our sound a lot. TBH Ginger May sounds less metal now. But we are pretty happy how it turned around. “Me and You” is a sexy, sweet groove-laden single with a rhythm to get you moving that sparkles with an intensity of rock and roll swagger.

METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?

GINGER MAY: Expect the unexpectable :))) We are trying to think up something new for almost each new live show, like new costumes or song lists or playing new unexpected covers. Sometimes we invite other artists to participate. It is pretty hard to predict. But you can watch some of our lives on our official YouTube channel.

METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?

GINGER MAY: We see us with more couple of albums (some spoilers here: we already have some concepts) and touring around the world. What else do bands need? 🙂
