Metal Anarchy’s New Music Showcase: Exclusive Q&A With Faded Shades

Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to artists that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with Faded Shades.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:

FADED SHADES: Faded Shades are an alt rock trio of South London gents creating distortion and phaser laden riffs and hooks. We aim to bring a modern and unique adaptation of modern rock by mixing a range of influences spanning generations of music. A dap of art school sensibilities alongside a slug of estuary charm. Best way to see what we are all about it’s to go give us a listen!

METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?

FADED SHADES: The three of us have a broad range of influences, which I believe is why our music is so unique. My influences are very much singer/songwriter based such as Lou Reed, Neil Young, Owen Campbell and Noel Gallagher. Charlie has a 60’s vibe going on with The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Who and Small Faces. Liam is the most modern of us, loving the heavy riff nature of Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Royal Blood & Soundgarden. Collectively we all love 90’s Britpop such as Oasis, Ocean Colour Scene and Kula Shaker!

METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?

FADED SHADES: Our latest release is our single “Heartache Calling!” You should check it out for its Red Hot Chili Peppers inspired instrumental style and lyrics that’ll make you want to cry your heart out! We’ve had a good response to this tune, it’s a bit different to our usual style and features a long atmospheric bridge section.

METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?

FADED SHADES: They can expect all our classic tunes and some new releases but even bigger and wilder. Being in a three piece makes it a challenge to live up to your studio recordings as each instrument needs to carry such weight and volume. So expect distortion, big effects and lots of jumping around! There’s always big energy at our gigs.

METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?

FADED SHADES: Hopefully still together! We have high hopes for a few albums, there is already enough material for a third. Our ambition is to tour as a support act for a larger band and eventually tour the UK with our own headline show. Stay tuned to our releases and movement by following @fadedshadesband and check out this link for more.
