Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to artists that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with Truth & Tragedy.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:

TRUTH & TRAGEDY: Truth & Tragedy is a post-hardcore 5-piece from Bavaria, Germany. We are: Aaron (vocals), Freddy (guitar), Kai (guitar), Vitali (bass) and Domi (drums) – our sound is raw, vulnerable, and at times brutal, with our lyrics often dealing with issues like trauma, alienation, substance abuse and PTSD, stemming from our singer Aaron’s own experiences serving in the US Army in Afghanistan. In our music, we take inspiration from a lot of alternative genres outside of hardcore, including metalcore, hard rock and (our personal favourite!) pop-punk.

METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?

TRUTH & TRAGEDY: We take inspiration from some amazing bands in our genre such as To Kill Achilles, Being As An Ocean and Casey – we love the vulnerability of their lyrics mixed with their style of music, and they’ve definitely had an influence on our own songwriting. We also love bands like Bring Me The Horizon, who aren’t afraid to experiment with different subgenres, and who seem to master any style they turn their hand to! That definitely inspires us to push the boundaries of (post)hardcore in our own music!

METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?

TRUTH & TRAGEDY: Our latest EP, ‘Blood on Blood’ (released 24th May 2022) is an exploration of family love, and signifies both the happiest and most tragic moments we have experienced in our family lives – the birth of a son, and the attempted suicide of a brother. We explore duality a lot in our music, and this EP is really close to our hearts – we’d love to know what you think!

METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?

TRUTH & TRAGEDY: We love any excuse to jump around on stage and act stupid, and we can guarantee you a good time at any of our shows! We have a lot of high energy tracks with some dirty breakdowns and some pretty shreddy guitar solos, and more often than not we’ll be jumping right into the crowd with you! We have a boatload of live shows coming up, including a full Eastern EU tour this September/October, a UK tour in February next year, followed by a full Western EU tour in April – so come see for yourselves and party with us!

METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?

TRUTH & TRAGEDY: Right now we are focusing on getting a mammoth number of live shows and festivals under our belt! We started right smack bang in the middle of Covid, and like every band, we feel like we were robbed of a year or two of live shows! So right now we’re just touring as much as possible, playing clubs, festivals and events in as many towns, cities and countries as we can reach, in the hopes that at some point in the next 5 years, we will be able to tour full time!
