Metal Anarchy’s New Music Showcase: Exclusive Q&A With Roy Niv

Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to artists that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with Roy Niv.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:

ROY NIV: We are located in Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. We met online during the pandemic in 2020. Matt had an album written that he wanted to get recorded and needed someone to sing on it. He met Bryan and they tracked the song “Runaround” which turned out amazingly. From there it has been just writing and recording and the final product is an album called “Twin Flames” which we are very proud of. Having a lot in common and similar musical tastes made it easy to work together and hone in on this sound we were going for. We each have 20+ years of music experience and love what we do.

METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?

ROY NIV: Dave Grohl, Lead singer of the Foo Fighters, was always my hero. Songs like “The Pretender”, “Walking After You” and “Walk” got me through my worst and best times of my life. After being in a Foo Fighters concert in 2019, I immediately knew that music is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. The story of Dave proved to me that if the desire is there and making music makes you feel like you already have everything you ever thought you needed, the sky is not even the limit. I recommend watching his speech which made me realize a lot about being a musician.

METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?

ROY NIV: “Stay Up”, which is my latest single and also the one I am closest to, is about overcoming obstacles and challenges as we are trying to live life as best as possible and reach our goals despite all the noise and negativity people can project on you. I find it extremely important to stay resilient to negative energies that sometimes cross our path and to find the strength to ignore them or resolve them into something that can lift you up instead of dragging you down. What makes this song special to me is that it doesn’t tell an ordinary story about a boy who loves a girl (no disrespect, I have many love songs as well) but “Stay Up” tells the story of a real struggle and the emotional strength necessary to overcome it and build a better life for yourself by staying up and not giving in to frustration and negativity.

METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?

ROY NIV: Mostly get ready to party. We keep it as tradition to make every show a party with a lot of high, hard rock energies. I love going wild on stage and I think the crowd likes to do the same with me. One of our greatest shows was in Tel Aviv, in this little club on the main street. It was one of our first shows and we were so excited to get it started! The crowd really felt our fire burning and bursting out of us as we waited so long to start performing. People were jumping and dancing and pushing each other around the place and I even got to go down the crowd and do a full song among them which really got me feeling their love and support.

METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?

ROY NIV: As a kid, I’ve always watched those massive rock shows in stadiums, and when I look ahead into my future, I see in my mind’s eye the tens of thousands of people jumping, having the time of their life and singing the lyrics with me. I see myself running and jumping across the stage as the crowd goes wild. This was always my purpose, to make people emotionally fulfilled with music, just like music did to me when I needed it.
