Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to artists that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with The Ansible.
METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:
THE ANSIBLE: We are The Ansible from Austin, TX. We initially started out as a two piece. Greg, our guitarist, and Derril, our singer wrote and recorded the first album in 2015. We never really had aspirations of being a live band, but a great friend and Austin promoter pushed us to get a full line up. We did some searching and found Nigel and Darian and off we went. Mark is our newest member. He joined up with us about 13 months ago. We’re currently in the process of releasing our new EP, Existing to Repeat.
METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?
THE ANSIBLE: Deftones is at the top of the list, for sure! We all have pretty diverse music tastes ranging from bands like Loathe, Spiritbox, and Sleep Token to Bon Iver, Circa Survive, and Bring Me The Horizon. But at any given point the van could be bumping Filth or Sevendust or even Billie Eilish.
METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?
THE ANSIBLE: So Existing To Repeat is like our COVID sessions. We were all in lockdown and decided we would hole up together for a couple weeks and just write about all the feelings we were going through from the isolation. Losing out on tours and other opportunities sent us spiraling and we just had to get that shit out. Musically we went in a little different direction. It’s still heavy, but instead of slapping your mama in the pit, it’s heavy in your chest. We wanted the songs to just blanket you and make you feel less alone and stressed.
METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?
THE ANSIBLE: You can expect to feel welcomed. We’re a family, and when you’re at a show we want you to feel like you’re part of our family. We always strive to play tight sets with lots of energy. We give our souls to the crowd.
METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?
THE ANSIBLE: Hopefully we’ll be touring full time! That’s the ultimate goal for all of us. We just want to be surrounded by music and all of its facets. Seeing the world, jamming everyday, and making new friends is the dream.
