Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to artists that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with Leper Messiah.
METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:
LEPER MESSIAH: We are LEPER MESSIAH, a 5-piece glammy hard rock act from Bergen, Norway. We started out as a Bowie tribute band touring a Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars show in 2012-2013, before transitioning into an original music act. This year (2021) we released our debut album – “FELL CREATURES” – a 10-track rock record about hardship and villains, to some great feedback. Good times. In about a month’s time (September), we are – the plague willing – launching our tour in support of the record, starting locally and branching out to the UK and Poland next year. Follow our Facebook band page for info and updates.
METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?
LEPER MESSIAH: Lots and lots of bands, of course, but Iggy Pop, KISS, Bowie, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Foo Fighters, Guns N’ Roses, Jimi Hendrix, and Tom Waits all belong to our stable of muses. We enjoy creating and performing music of various styles and rock genres, to mix it all up and keep it interesting. There’s nothing so boring as a band whose every single song sounds exactly the same, and we work hard to have a surprise for you around every corner.
METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?
LEPER MESSIAH: As mentioned, we’ve just released our debut album, of which we’re terribly exited and proud. Check it out HERE peoploids. The last track especially, “Blood is Black” – a moody hard rock/heavy metal tune about Jack the Ripper – I believe would appeal to y’all anarchists around here. Have a listen, yeah?
METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?
LEPER MESSIAH: You can expect to see a hardworking rock band giving it their all, bringing you emotionally powerful songs with substance and punch, and a bit of glammy show for flair. Some mischief, some flirting, some performative anger, and a whole lot of beautiful melodies and strong stories is what you’ll get from Leper Messiah.
METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?
LEPER MESSIAH: In 2026, we’ll be coming off a US tour with loads of tried and tested new songs in our luggage, heading into the studio to make that difficult follow-up record, a double album full of tour-inspired wonder and angst. When that’s in the can, the rock & roll touring circus starts all over again, as it should, as the gods of metal and rock intended. Come visit us on the road, folks; don’t be shy, we seldom bite.
