Metal Anarchy’s New Music Showcase: Exclusive Q&A With Akiavel

Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to bands that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with Akiavel.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:

AKIAVEL: Chris (guitar): Akiavel is a death metal band from the South of France. We originally created the band in March 2018 with Jay (bass) and Auré (vocals), and Butch (drums) joined us in December of the same year.

Butch (drums): Our goal was to create and play the music we liked and wanted to listen to, a powerful music with melodies and the brutal vocals of Auré, one of the most crazy Death Metal woman singers. We wanted to create our very own universe, a style which would incorporate all our different musical backgrounds, Thrash metal, Death Metal and Hardcore.

METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?

AKIAVEL: Chris: Our influences are very different, all 4 have different tastes and musical backgrounds, it encompasses metal music at large.

Butch: Yes, our influences range from classical Heavy Metal like the great Iron Maiden to pure violence like Benighted or Aborted, but also Thrash like Slayer or Testament or even Hatebreed. Our music is deeply rooted into every and all metal styles!

METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?

AKIAVEL: Butch: We released our full-length album “V” in February 2020, with 9 songs and 1 bonus taken from our self-titled EP, released in 2018. We immediately found our personal style and managed to cope with the idea of mixing all these different influences of ours. We also have insisted on having our own sound, raw and powerful, and we like to think we did it (laugh). We then have 4 different music videos taken from this album, you should definitely check them out if you want to discover Akiavel’s unique world.

Chris: More recently, we also recorded 2 live songs for the February edition of the Slay at Home Festival, by Metal Injection, you should really check them out (laugh)!

Butch: But on top of this, we will release our second album, “Vae Victis”, on the 23rd of April this year. This album is the continuity of the first one, where we dug further and deeper into Akiavel’s style. The fact of knowing each other way better has helped the writing process.

METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?

AKIAVEL: Chris: We hope they feel the energy, positive energy, that make them feel happy when they come back home, to their “normal” life.

Butch: The main thing that matters to us in terms of live shows, even if we only played a few of them since our first tour was canceled in March 2020, is power and good music, there is no fireworks or theatrical effects to expect (laugh). But people can expect a lot of headbanging. And also a blast with Auré’s voice, which is really stunning.

METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?

AKIAVEL: Butch: Hopefully able to tour the world, visit a lot of countries and different venues and play and share our music with as many people as possible!

Chris: It’s too far from now to tell this, but if the world doesn’t explode, with hope to be together with you and all the people who show us interest, on big shows, and at the afterparties (laugh).
