Metal Anarchy’s New Music Showcase: Exclusive Q&A With Sullen Guest

Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to bands that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with Sullen Guest.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:

SULLEN GUEST: Sullen Guest started as a female-fronted melodic doom band in 2013 in Lithuania. After 10 line-up changes and two albums released, we are proceeding to a new phase strong as never before, presenting the new album “Chapter III.”

METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?

SULLEN GUEST: The main influences were inflicted by Novembers Doom, Katatonia, Opeth, Death. But all these were taken into account from the period when the bands had more raw power (albums 1992-1995). Also October Tide, Deinonychus, and Forgotten Tomb.

METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?

SULLEN GUEST: With “Chapter III” we reached desired emotional and musical quality. I think this album has a unique colour in the death/doom genre. Balancing between rough riffs and memorable calm melodies, with mixed anger and sadness, between fast and slow tempos with true feelings from inside conveyed by harsh vocals.

METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?

SULLEN GUEST: For the new album, we created symbolic scenography reflecting our artwork, with the meaning behind it, together with new stage effects, and of course, during every gig, we give out our best, with no fake feelings of emotions. Let’s hope all this gets discovered someday alongside the messages of our scenography.

METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?

SULLEN GUEST: Our desired musical journey has just begun and I’m sure that in 5 years we will have a contract with a label, two more albums, and one big tour in Europe solo or as a supporting band of one of the biggest names in the death/doom metal genre.
