During a press briefing yesterday (April 14), California Governor Gavin Newsom revealed his six-point plan to begin reopening the state. Notably, he mentioned that concerts, sporting events, etc. are unlikely to return without a coronavirus vaccine.

Newsom said the following when asked how the summer months may look:
“The prospect of mass gatherings is negligible at best until we get to herd immunity and we get to a vaccine. So large-scale events that bring in hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands of strangers, all together across every conceivable difference, health and otherwise, is not in the cards based upon our current guidelines and current expectations.”
He went on to say that conditions can change “radically,” but “when you suggest June, July, August, it is unlikely.”
This news comes after Dr. Ezekiel “Zeke” Emanuel, a special adviser to the director general of the World Health Organization, recently said that concerts probably won’t return until at least fall 2021.
