Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to bands that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with Second Wind.
METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:
SECOND WIND: Brad: Second Wind was conceived in my mind around March 2018. Not having had the chance to play in a melodic hardcore band yet, I wanted a new outlet for my love of this genre, and committed myself to seeing this band take off. I had the pleasure and great opportunity of bringing my longtime friend Dane aboard, and we recently brought Jordan into the fold, on bass.
METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?
SECOND WIND: Brad: My top five favorite artists ever are August Burns Red; Killswitch Engage; Unearth; Hammock; and Cloudkicker. At the end of the day I definitely lean towards metalcore, but my tastes and drumming wouldn’t be what they are today without bands like The Ghost Inside; Gideon; and Counterparts. They have changed the game as far as melodic hardcore goes! They are huge influences on me, day in and day out.
Dane: Mainly I draw a lot from artists really saying something meaningful. This changes a lot depending on what’s happening in my life but there are a few I always come back to; like The Ghost Inside, Hundredth, In Flames, Periphery.
Jordan: Lately, I’ve been influenced a lot by Phinehas, Of Mice & Men, Polaris, and Gideon. I do, however, appreciate and try to learn from many other genres.
METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?
SECOND WIND: Brad: Our latest release is “Apathy”, the second single from our upcoming EP, “Indispensable”. If you love bands like Stick to Your Guns; Counterparts; The Ghost Inside; and Wage War, you’ll love this track. We’ve already been fortunate to have radio play worldwide; a number of radio hosts have given us 5/5 ratings through RDX Promo, our partner. Give it a spin today!
Dane: Apathy is our most recent release. We have gotten great feedback and airplay. I believe it has a message people can relate to, it has a lot of power behind it to make you feel what it’s about, and to help you get through whatever may be bringing you down lately.
Jordan: Apathy is the latest single and an absolute banger if you ask me. It’s catchy but unique and has a positive, uplifting lyrical message that I think many people can relate to.
METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?
SECOND WIND: Brad: We are super close to getting to play shows! We’re likely just a few weeks from confirming our lead guitarist. Once we get all practiced up, we’ll be hitting the stage for sure. As far as bands I want to be like live, Crystal Lake is my gold standard.
Dane: A meaningful experience that is both hard hitting and positively motivated. We want people to have an amazing time and leave feeling better than when they came in.
Jordan: Once we start playing shows, I think people will see the passion and hard work that went into each of the songs. And a lot of positive energy!
METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?
SECOND WIND: Brad: Great question! We’d definitely love to be doing more regional and sometimes national tours. We have big goals in music, and want to steadily build from where we currently are. To be able to put out one new EP or album per year (by that point) would be one goal for me. Other than that, we want to incrementally build a fanbase who we connect with, and who connect with us.
Dane: I believe we are all on the same page on this one.
Jordan: I agree with Brad. I would love to tour and play with as many bands as possible while connecting with people through music.
