Silent Planet’s Garrett Russell: “I’m Not Allowing Anxiety To Take Over”

As previously reported, Silent Planet’s Garrett Russell recently entered a psychological rehabilitation clinic to get help for mental health issues. Now, the vocalist has offered an update on his condition, saying that he is “not allowing anxiety to take over.”

Russell said the following:

“Merry Christmas from all of us. My bandmates are enjoying the day with family, and I’m so glad that’s the case. They deserve it. We love touring, of course, but it’s caused us to miss so many holidays and ceremonies.

For me this Christmas looks a little different than I could have expected. I suppose no one really plans to spend Christmas in a mental institution. And I’d be lying if I pretended that today hasn’t been difficult so far. After all, being here is the result of the greatest failure of my personal life – one that has shaken me to the core or my being, and put the entire band in a difficult financial position.

But I’m not allowing anxiety to take over. Not anymore. I am praying and fighting. I wish to be resilient – something that many of you have shown me with the stories you’ve shared at shows. Life is a gift and it’s worth fighting for – even if it’s not what you expect. Even if it hurts like hell. So here I am: Thankful to be alive and thankful for the many folks who have encouraged me while I’m in here. Especially my bandmates and our manager Cory – dudes who still haven’t given up on me.

So Merry Christmas. Whether this day finds you mourning, celebrating, or simply dizzy from the eggnog – don’t ever give up. After all, this day is a celebration that marks the beginning of the greatest revolution this earth hasn’t ever seen (in my humble opinion).

Also… Happy Hanukkah or Kwanzaa or
whatever else some of you might call this day!

P.S. We have something very special to show you 30 hours from now. Love you.”
