A new report over at Billboard has revealed that a representative for Metallica conspired with Live Nation to put tickets from the band’s 2017 “WorldWired” tour onto the resale market.

The story came to light after Billboard obtained a secretly recorded phone call in which Live Nation president of U.S. concerts Bob Roux and Metallica ticketing consultant Tony DiCioccio were allegedly arranging a deal to give 88,000 tickets to secondary retailers. The call was said to have taken place before the tickets were even on sale.
Vaughn Millette, who now serves as chairman and CEO of Outback Presents, was also on the line and chose to send the recording to Live Nation executives and board members “to alert them of information he had collected while working with the company as a business partner.” The call was then given to Billboard from “a source close to Live Nation.”
Live Nation has confirmed that “a consultant for the band opted to use the secondary market to try to capture that [secondary market] value.” They also said that they do not engage in this practice without artist approval. According to Billboard, “Metallica would get 40% of the resale revenue, Live Nation 40%, DiCioccio 12% and Millette 8%, though another source said Live Nation‘s share was lower.”
