Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to bands that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with Threatpoint.
METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:
THREATPOINT: Alex Olivetti: Sure! We are Threatpoint, a metal band from Scranton, Pennsylvania in the United States. The band consists of CJ Krukowski (drums), Chris James (vocals), Sam Young (bass), Greg Baczmarga and myself Alex Olivetti (guitar).
Chris James: Threatpoint was founded from the ashes of two old bands in March of 2012. Our sound has definitely evolved throughout the almost 7 years we’ve been a band. The core of the band has always been Chris James, Alex Olivetti and CJ Krukowski. A few players have come and gone, but the past year we got our original bassist back, Sam Young. On top of that we also hooked up with a second guitarist Greg Baczmarga. We’ve known him from another band from years prior. So this year we are actually stronger than ever with this lineup. Just feels great on stage the chemistry and people see it!
METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?
THREATPOINT: Alex Olivetti: A wide range of bands have influenced us as musicians; everything from The Doors to Cannibal Corpse. Some of our main influences as a group would be Testament, Metallica, Lamb of God, Overkill and Killswitch Engage.
Chris James: We have influences all over the spectrum. The thing that unites us most is definitely old school thrash metal. Growing up each of us have always gravitated toward that style. However we do have so many more outside influences, Classic Rock, 80s Pop, Country, Jazz, Classical, and just great rock music all over the board.
METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?
THREATPOINT: Alex Olivetti: Our new album is entitled Salvation and is available now! It’s our 4th full length album. I think readers of this site and metal fans in general will dig as it’s heavy and aggressive but also diverse with a positive message. It has fast songs, groovy songs, some hard-rock and even blues influenced pieces. We also expanded our sound as there are more clean vocal and musical passages than anything we’ve done.
Chris James: February 22 our new release comes out, “Salvation” this is by far our best to date. It’s just got more energy, quicker tempos, the vocals are a mix of the heavy but cleans in it. We’ve even did a bunch of harmonies in the vocals this time around. This CD also has our original bassist, Sam back on it. Sam also recorded “Dead to Rise” our first effort. The songs just have more hooks in them and following the old influences of earlier thrash it really shows on this album.
METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?
THREATPOINT: Alex Olivetti: An intense and high energy set. We all love to play live and give 110% every night. The most important part is the connection between the music and the listeners; we feed off of each other.
Chris James: Threatpoint is all about the live show. We write our music for the live show.High energy, lots of moving around. We love to interact with the people. It makes for building relationships with them, and making them feel part of the show is just memorable. We also throw in a few old school covers for fun, they are nice ice breakers, especially if you’re in a new area and your trying to build your name with new fans.
METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?
THREATPOINT: Alex Olivetti: We have our first international show in Canada this year under our new management agency, Voodoo Queen Management. We’re hoping to make it overseas in the future, there seems to be a large market for heavy music over there.
Chris James: Hopefully alive, LOL…. Who knows, God is in control. We just try to have fun and make friends along the way. Visiting new cities and towns is always a blast. We hope a solid label hears us and gives us a hand, this industry is so tough…
