Metal Anarchy’s New Music Showcase: Exclusive Q&A With Stew

Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to up and coming bands that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with Markus Åsland of Stew.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:

ÅSLAND: Hi and thanks for reaching out to us! Stew is a power-trio from Sweden that consists of Markus Åsland: Bass and vocals, Nicklas Jansson: guitar and Nicklas Dahlgren: Drums. We started jamming with each other at the beginning of 2017. We noticed quickly that we were all into the same kind of music which made it easy to write songs. Later on, we decided to play more often and when we had written a couple of songs we wanted to hit the stage. And then we made plans for the EP “HOT” which we recorded in November 2017.

METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?

ÅSLAND: Our main influences we believe are Free, Deep Purple, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Terry Reid, and Aretha Franklin.

METAL ANARCHY: What can you say about your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?

ÅSLAND: Our latest release is our debut EP called “HOT” that we think describes Stew very well. It’s a mix between Classic Rock, Blues, and Soul with heavy inspiration from the 60s and 70s era, although the music-atmosphere has that modern touch.

METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?

ÅSLAND: They will see a right in the moment, heavy and hearty band with true passion for the music.

METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?

ÅSLAND: We hope that our EP ‘HOT’, our forthcoming album and live-performances will open up some doors so that our music can be spread to a wider audience. We just wanna do our thing, create music, release albums and play live. That’s the main thing. So in 5 years, we will probably be invited into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, hahah… no just kidding, we’ll see…

If you’re interested, you can stream Stew’s EP “Hot” and read a review of the effort below:

Review: Stew’s EP “Hot” is a must have for any hard rock fan. The effort consists of four 60’s / 70’s inspired tracks, including “Might Be Keeping You,” “If This Will Be The End,” “Tongue Tied,” and “Dig For Gold,” and each one is killer. The tracks feature amazing guitar work that is reminiscent of classic acts like Jimi Hendrix and Cream, and even more modern acts like The Sword. They also contain swinging drums and extremely soulful vocals that can be compared to the likes of Black Stone Cherry’s Chris Robertson, etc. All in all, it is completely solid on all fronts and is definitely worth checking out if you’re on the hunt for new music.
