Metal Anarchy’s New Music Showcase: Exclusive Q&A With VIZA

Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to up and coming bands that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with VIZA.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:

VIZA: VIZA is many things. It’s an audio passport. It’s metal eastern. It’s a wild and whacky show driving fans into a frenzy. We play a fusion style of rock and middle eastern music with not only guitars, bass and drums, but also with oud (fretless plucked string instrument), duduk (double reed wind instrument) and doumbek (middle eastern hand drum).

METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?

VIZA: There’s a lot! Ranging from Mike Patton to Rage Against the Machine to System of a Down to Living Colour to Depeche Mode to Tool to Metallica to Gogol Bordello to Queen to various elements of classic rock to Armenian, Greek and middle eastern folk music. We hear how some consider us part of the gypsy rock paradigm, maybe, maybe not? Haha! Because of our folk background bands that incorporate some odd time signatures are also big for us as that’s very sincere and natural for our group’s DNA.

METAL ANARCHY: What can you say about your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?

VIZA: We just finished releasing 12 tracks on a monthly basis through our YouTube channel (experienceviza on YouTube) and also split them into two physical 6-song EPs named “The Unorthodox Revival” with Volumes I and II. We are focusing on promoting and marketing that as we gear up for more shows, festivals, etc. The songs are each much like episodes of an anthology series in that they are all quite different on their face, but share a common denominator at some level. Would love to hear what people think about the release ☺.

METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?

VIZA: We play very energetic music – that is a great fit for live shows and festivals. Just this past week at Aftershock we had mosh pits and circles going right from the get go and through most of our set!

METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?

VIZA: More shows, more songs, more releases and more sharing our honest and exciting music with the world. Can’t wait for it all!
