Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to up and coming bands that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with QUOR guitarist/vocalist Brian Corn.
METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:
BRIAN CORN: QUOR is three headed dragon that creates and performs music with the help of its friends.
METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?
BRIAN CORN: I’m not sure there is a set of “main” influences for any of us. We like the “Metal” genre but we love “Music”. If the question is what might someone compare QUOR’s music too?, I think it would be something like this: System of a Down had sex with Mastodon and had a child similar to In Flames who liked to listen to Sevendust and Nothing More.
METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?
BRIAN CORN: Our latest release is the EP “The Way We Are”. I think the readers of Metal Anarchy will particularly like the genre defying aspects of the record. It’s metal for sure and it’s something of its own. We all hear that claim fairly often in music and generally with most things as an attempt to differentiate something drowning within the many. QUOR has some obvious similarities with others but there is just something unusual in the feeling and expression of the compositions that give the album and the project itself a unique identity. A certain disregard for what might be expected. And that is a double edged sword in an industry that tends to follow “proven” formulas as a rule. I don’t think everyone will like this album, but some will fall in love with it as we have.
METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?
BRIAN CORN: Hahaha! I don’t even know what to expect from our live shows. We tend to thrive on an “in the moment’ way of being. We do however give every show every bit of our being no matter the what’s, where’s, how’s, and who’s.
METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?
BRIAN CORN: Mars. I hope.
