Metal Anarchy’s New Music Showcase: Exclusive Q&A With Electus

Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to up and coming bands that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with Electus.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:

ELECTUS: Well…during the early noughties I started writing a lot of songs on the acoustic guitar, I’ve (Russell Peake – lead vocals/rhythm guitar) been in a few rock bands during the 90s but I decided to do go back to basics and concentrate on song writing, around 2008 I started touring as a solo acoustic artist and it felt natural, the simplicity of that experience musically was very satisfying, especially as the rock world at that time wasn’t doing anything for me bar a few exceptions like Within Temptation, Disturbed, Opeth, Epica, Lacuna Coil. I did some acoustic recordings around 2009 and the feedback was great and at that point I decided what would happen…I went all out with Marshall amps hard rock & roll, see what happens but primarily do it for the love of musical satisfaction and enjoy whatever happens… ergo ELECTUS was born! I thought if I do this I don’t want to be a jeans and t-shirt band on stage, give it all…after sifting through ideas I decided to have a play on the theme of the band ELECTUS and its meaning comes from ancient Greece, the translation is “the chosen ones”. The debut album was released 2015 called “the dark” and was received well in the rock media and took the album on the road, the album cover art I designed forming the concept of the “alien angel” the motif for the band if you will…coming to earth to help save rock & Roll and the first gift is 10 songs performed by a hard rock band fronted by “the Warrior of Rock” played by myself. It’s all a bit tongue in cheek, but we’re just 4 guys having fun! Blasting it as often as we can! Then in 2017 came the follow up “Rock & Roll Incarnate Part One” another 10 songs to have a trip on! We are blessed to have such great feedback and airplay from all over. The 1st single was “Ticket To Nowhere” which was just a fun song about having a blast on the road, the 2nd was “I Wanted you”, a love tune, and the 3rd current single “Slip Away” about following your dreams and never giving up!

METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?

ELECTUS: Our musical influences mostly are a lot of the greats like Kiss, Zeppelin, Sabbath, Motley Crue, Guns N’ Roses, Megadeth, Opeth, Disturbed and some obscure stuff like Ludovico Einaudi, to name but a few…

METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?

ELECTUS: Our latest single is “Slip Away” a steady classic rock style tune as previously mentioned about following your dreams and never giving up. The video was made by an artist who makes a lot of sketchy cartoons and turns them into videos. I really like his work and I thought it be a little different, he took the lyrics to form a storyboard and it tells a story of a woman growing up having a lot of experiences through her life and realising life is a good thing, live every second like it’s your last…

METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?

ELECTUS: Live we all put every ounce of energy into performing live! Enjoying every moment and visually putting on a show that hopefully makes people feel satisfied and wanting more!

METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?

ELECTUS: In 5 years’ time gosh I’d like us to be a well-established world class hard rock band appreciated, loved, writing great songs for the world to enjoy…hoping I still enjoy it too of course…spreading the gospel of hard rock and Roll unvarnished with a smile to the world…blast it! Love it! Buy it!
