Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to up and coming bands that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with Echo Black.
METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:
ECHO BLACK: We are Echo Black from New York City and we make “dance rock.” We formed in early 2015 after having performed under the moniker “Danny Blu” for a number of years. As we started working more as a band as opposed to a solo act, we decided it was time to rebrand the project and move forward as a unit. We worked tirelessly to make sure we brought all the existing fans with us on our new venture. We’ve successfully made ourselves into a nationally touring act with some of the best fans we could ever ask for! And we’ve stayed completely independent thus far.
METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?
ECHO BLACK: The cool thing about our band is that we all come from severely different music backgrounds; we think it serves to make our music multi-faceted and lets us mix and match genres to create our sound. For example, our singer, Danny, comes from the lands of Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, Orgy, Lady Gaga, Psyclon Nine, etc. Our drummer/pianist, Billy, comes mainly from the lands of Bruce Springsteen, Meatloaf, P!nk, etc. Our bassist, Rob, hails from the basement shows of New Brunswick and our guitarist, Felix, could be a sleaze rocker from ’87. It all melts and melds together to create the sound we call Echo Black.
METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?
ECHO BLACK: We put out our debut album DAWN a little while ago and we are extremely proud of the product we were able to create with our team. It truly represents our multi-genred sound and it’s meant to take you on a proper album journey. From track 1 to track 12 (13, if you buy the physical copy), the listeners are meant to immerse themselves in this theatrical experience we call DAWN. Listeners should check it out because it’s probably something they aren’t expecting to be featured on a mainly “metal” site. Sure, we draw some inspiration from the metal scene and some of us are very much a part of it, but are we a metal band? No. BUT that doesn’t mean it won’t catch your earbuds off guard!
METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?
ECHO BLACK: FUCKING ENERGY. If there is one thing we do right, it’s the live show. The live show is what drives us forward. We love touring; we love meeting people of a million different backgrounds, from a million different places. Our show is high octane. We’ve really taken the time and made the investments to make our shows feel like stadiums inside (sometimes) seedy bars. We bring a full light show whenever possible and feed off the energy in the room to create a lightning storm in each venue.
METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?
ECHO BLACK: Who the fuck knows, but we certainly don’t plan on resting anytime soon… so come along for the ride with us! Maybe we’ll be playing Madison Square Garden; maybe we’ll still be coming to a small town near you. Whatever the case may be, we will be as dedicated then as we are now. See you at a show!!!
