Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to up and coming bands that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with drummer Jimmy Wooten of the Miami, FL hard rock band Gears.
METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?
WOOTEN: We have influences from all over the spectrum, really. Of course we have modern influences ranging from Deftones, Sevendust, Rage Against The Machine and such. Also, we like to cite the bands that really got our motors running in our youth to wanna be performers. David Bowie, Prince, James Brown, and Led Zeppelin to name a few.
METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?
WOOTEN: Our latest release is the single and video “King.” I think it’s one of our more aggressive songs both musically and lyrically. We hope that people dig the direction of the band as we keep evolving with each release. The video features two badass homegrown MMA fighters from South Florida, Jeremy “The Fiend” Fiene and Alan “Rebel” Arzeno which made it exciting to shoot. I think people who check it out will definitely enjoy it.
METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?
WOOTEN: ENERGY! We pride ourselves on our live show. We never “take a night off” on the road. Each time you see us, you are getting our very best and we hope that the energy is infectious and pulls the audience in.
METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?
WOOTEN: That’s a tough one! We obviously will continue to try to write great songs that we are proud of and that the listening community will like. Hopefully some higher profile releases and tours so that we can get out and play on front of as many people as possible!
