Metal Anarchy’s New Music Showcase: Exclusive Q&A With Drops Of Heart

Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to up and coming bands that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with Russian metal band Drops Of Heart.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little bit about your band:

DROPS OF HEART: We are Drops of Heart, metal band from Ufa, Russia. You can hear a lot of melodies, speedy riffs and atmospheric and ambient influences in our music. We don’t try to play some definite genre of metal, but it mostly sounds like melodic death and modern metal. We sing in Russian because, in our opinion, Russian language is very suitable for metal.

METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?

DROPS OF HEART: It’s hard to choose the musicians and artists who was most influenced us. But we’ll try. First of all, bands like Dark Tranquillity, In Flames, Insomnium, etc. We love different atmospheric rock and metal bands: Alcest, Anathema, Mono, Maybeshewill, Deafheaven, Cult of Luna. Of course we must notice alternative legends like Nirvana, Guano Apes and other bands. And we don’t forget how it all started: all we grew up from different kinds of Russian rock.

METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?

DROPS OF HEART: We released several maxi-singles in 2016-2017. It was like a new page in history of our band because, honestly, our last full-length album («Новая Надежда», 2014) wasn’t as cool as we wanted. It was our first attempt to make some big and full-fledged thing, but we didn’t have enough skills and live experience. We knew that we can make our music better. And we did it (at least we think so), show listeners that we can be the band they love. Now the new (and last before the album) maxi-single is preparing to release and will be available on June 22. At the moment the last single is the holiday track “Ой, Мороз, Мороз” (“Oh, Frost, Frost”), cover on the deathless Russian folk song and it sounds like a mix of Russian folk and modern metal.

METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?

DROPS OF HEART: We don’t want to tell some typical things like “it will be amazing show with wild energy” and other. We will just try to make them happy for some time.

METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?

DROPS OF HEART: We want to make something really great and important for world metal scene, to leave a mark in history. And touring, of course. We haven’t any possibilities to spend much time on the roads and scenes now. But we will try to fix it.
