Video Surfaces Of What The Metallica & Lady Gaga Grammy Performance Should Have Sounded Like, Lars Ulrich Says Gaga Is The “Quintessential Perfect Fifth Member” Of Metallica

Metallica and Lady Gaga’s performance of “Moth Into Flame” at the 59th annual Grammys didn’t exactly go right with the presenter not mentioning Metallica and the fact that James Hetfield’s mic wasn’t working. However, a new video posted by RoLoad does have Hetfield’s vocals with the site claiming the online stream worked while the TV stream didn’t. It is unknown if this true, but you check out the clip below:

TMZ recently reported that a stagehand was to blame for the incident, while Pitchfork are now saying a spokesperson for the Recording Academy said a dancer/extra was to blame:

“What we believe happened was that either a dancer or an extra clipped the line running on the floor and it unplugged at the base of the mic.”

It is doubtful we will ever truly figure out what happened, but Lars Ulrich does want to work with Gaga again. He told Rolling Stone the following:

“We already started fast-forwarding to the next chapter when we can do more of this. It’s not one of those ’20 lawyers, strategists and managers trying to force two people from two different worlds to figure out how to spend four minutes together on a national telecast.’ Of any of these undertakings, this is about as organic and authentic as there’s ever been one. We’re just getting started.”

He also added that she is the “quintessential perfect fifth member of this band”:

“Her voice, her attitude, her outlook on everything is so awesome. [The performance] was so effortless and organic and she just has the spirit of hard rock and metal flowing through her veins. It comes really easy for her. There’s nothing contrived; she just has this super warm, easy energy.”

Ulrich also commented on the technical issues:

“There was a slight technical snafu, but that’s not really something you can do much about,. You just learn to live with that side of it. It happened to Adele last year; I guess this year it was our turn.”
