Tom Morello To Play Shows Protesting The Trans-Pacific Partnership

Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine) will be heading out on a tour with Anti-Flag, actress Evangeline Lilly (Lost), Flobots, Downtown Boys, and more to protest the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). The first of these shows will take place at the Summit Music Hall in Denver, CO on July 23.

According to the White House website, the TPP is an agreement between the U.S. and “11 other countries in the Asia-Pacific, including Canada and Mexico” which would “eliminate over 18,000 taxes various countries put on Made-in-America products,” and make it so “we can rewrite the rules of trade to benefit America’s middle class,” before “competitors who don’t share our values, like China, step in to fill that void,” but many people are opposing the deal. Morello is one of those against the plan, and had the following to say:

“Working people everywhere have had enough. The TPP is nothing short of a corporate takeover of our democracy. That’s why people are rising up to stop it. Corporate lobbyists want to sneak the TPP through Congress quietly; that means it’s time for us to get loud.”
