Lightning Strikes At Rock am Ring Festival, Many People Injured

71 people were injured when after lightning struck the Rock am Ring festival in Germany yesterday (June 3). According to Loudwire, 15 of those injured have been hospitalized with serious injuries.

Festival organizers said the following:

“A severe thunderstorm with lightning strikes has caused multiple injuries at the festival grounds in Mending. Police, firefighters and the Red Cross responded and were able to reach those affected quickly.”

This is the second year in a row with lightening striking last year, resulting in the injuries of at least 33 people.

UPDATE : The June 5 date of the festival has since been cancelled. The organizers posted the following:

“Rock am ring ends on the second day
Dear festival goers,
Rock am ring must be prematurely after the second day will come to an end. Due to the weather warning for the Sunday revoked the municipality mendig spielgenehmigung today for the final festival day on Sunday. In responsibility for the welfare of the fans accept the organisers of this decision. On the first day of the festival day were more than 80 visitors through strikes partly badly hurt and has been admitted in hospitals. We regret the decision, however, you ask for understanding for this emergency, which is due to the storms.”
