According to Stuff.co.nz, the murder for hire charges against AC/DC drummer, Phil Rudd have been dropped. Despite this, he is still facing charges for “threatening to kill” and for possession of meth and marijuana.
Tauranga Crown Solicitor, Greg Hollister-Jones, said the prosecution office received Rudd’s case today and that “There was insufficient evidence to proceed with the charge of attempting to procure murder.”
Rudd’s lawyer, Paul Mabey has also commented on the situation:
“Mr. Rudd has suffered unnecessary and extremely damaging publicity as a result of widespread and sensational reporting of a very serious allegation, which on any basis was never justified. The damage to Mr. Rudd is incalculable.”
Mabey went on to say the drug charges are “minor” and that Rudd plans on fighting the “threatening to kill” charge, but if he is convicted, he could serve up to seven years in prison
AC/DC also commented about the situation earlier today:
“We’ve only become aware of Phil’s arrest as the news was breaking. We have no further comment. Phil’s absence will not affect the release of our new album Rock or Bust and upcoming tour next year.”
