According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Malcolm Young is currently being treated for dementia, at Lulworth House in Elizabeth Bay, after reportedly suffering of a stroke, last year. This news comes after AC/DC revealed that he would not be returning to the band.
A connection to the Young family said the following about Malcolm’s condition:
“If you were in the room with him and walked out, then came back in one minute later, he wouldn’t remember who you are. He has a complete loss of short-term memory. His wife, Linda, has put him in full-time care.”
Hopefully his condition will improve.
Malcolm Young wasn’t present for AC/DC’s recording sessions for Rock Or Bust, due to illness. This new album, which comes out December 2, will be the first without the guitarist.
UPDATE: The story ran by The Sydney Morning Herald has since been confirmed by the Young family, who told People the following:
“Malcolm is suffering from dementia and the family thanks you for respecting their privacy.”
