Metal Anarchy’s New Music Showcase: Q&A With Versus

Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to artists that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have a Q&A with Versus.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:

VERSUS: We are currently a three-piece post-hardcore band out of Leeds and we have been going for the last 10 years on and off with various different sounds but have since discovered where we are the most comfortable sonically and as a band. We kinda write music that we love, and we put it out there for other people to interpret it in their own ways, you know?

METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?

VERSUS: Who isn’t an influence these days? The industry is absolutely bursting at the seams for talent and inspiration, and music has been around for centuries, so there are plenty of songwriters that inspire us from all over the place. I think at this point in time, we are more influenced by bands like Dayseeker, Pendulum, BMTH and loads of other bands from that particular arena, but we also have pop influences like Taylor Swift (I can’t believe I just said that but it’s true – she is a phenomenal song writer with a killer business plan), Motown influences like Quincy Jones (great music writing in that era) and all the way back to taking influence from classical composers like Bach and Vivaldi.

METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?

VERSUS: The latest release was the back end of January and is called ‘All Good Things’ – it’s from our debut album, ‘The Catalyst,’ which is our finest writing to date. Like I said before, we have found our sweet spot sonically, so it is time to build on those foundations. Why should people go and listen to us? Well, it’s because this album is a killer, the best music we have written so far, and we think it is fucking awesome!

METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?

VERSUS: We try to give everything we’ve got at shows so that they’re a little more intense than they used to be! We try and create that experience that every fan wants to have at a show, so through months of planning we use first and foremost, our music and the energy we bring to the stage alone but we incorporate visuals and special effects to put everything together and deliver that killer experience everyone wants.

METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?

VERSUS: We’ll be playing more and more shows all over the UK to way bigger audiences than we are now, hitting more festivals and potentially some continental or transatlantic tours, who knows? We will have had a couple more albums out by then, so all we can really say is, get tickets, support live music and come hang with us now, before it gets all kinds of crazy and shit! x
