Metal Anarchy’s New Music Showcase: Q&A With Frequency Overload

Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to artists that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have a Q&A with Frequency Overload.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:

FREQUENCY OVERLOAD: The foundations of Frequency Overload began with guitarist Corey Schaefer and drummer Kevin Daily, who share a history in metal. Corey’s time in bands like Uncle Jack, Nothing Sacred, Kryonix, Misery, and Misery Kills led to a solid foundation in guitar and songwriting, which also led to support slots for Devildriver and Kittie. Kevin honed his percussion roots by jamming to Metallica’s Kill ‘Em All when he was 14. Later, a run in Akalamathesia and tenure in Long Island’s iconic Exit Verona led to reigning strong in the Hard Rock scene to include shows at the legendary B.B. King venue in NYC. With a new metal venture in mind, Corey set out to round out a lineup. Self-proclaimed “Chokalist” Mr. Bush stepped into the vocal spotlight, no stranger to the experience as the frontman of Social Disease, Ironlung, Evileye, Welt, and Pummel, and former labelmate of Dominus-era Michael Poulsen on Progress Records. Steve Little completed the lineup as an experienced bassist of 30 years, playing in Cobalt 60, Intogreen, Image Within, and Ionize. The unfortunate loss of a bandmate led Steve to step away from music for some time, but Frequency Overload was just the right project to bring him back on the scene. The moment Frequency Overload jammed together, they realised they had landed a lineup that felt “more right than ever” according to Mr. Bush, with effortless ideas and comfort as if they had been playing together for years. The synchronistic flow led to the completion of their debut full-length within a year of formation. Life of Agony legend and renowned producer Joey Z recorded, engineered, mastered, and even jumped on some backing vocals for Fate Anthropic, with the exception of two bonus tracks done by Corey at Fat Bottom Studio.

METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?

FREQUENCY OVERLOAD: If we all had the same influences what fun would that be? Together and in no particular order I would say Megadeth, Pantera, Judas Priest, Carnivore, Black Sabbath, and Metallica have all played a role. For me I feel like that is a question best answered by the listener. Our influences are everything we’ve ever experienced…is a lyric or a note not a reflection of emotion as well? We are a metal band with influences of not only classic metal but contemporary as well.

METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?

FREQUENCY OVERLOAD: FREQUENCY OVERLOAD full length album out now! FATE ANTHROPIC was released through Skateboard Marketing independently in spring 2024, and now found a home at SODEH records! The readers of this site should check it out, first note to last note, because we need the feedback and you need the FREQUENCIES!! With a diverse background and what has been described as a “genreless” metal melting pot, we feel we have the serious, dark, fun, and human condition aspects to offer something to every metal head. When you are surrounded by genre snobs…it’s good to be genreless. FATE ANTHROPIC can be found on all streaming platforms, or directly at www.frequencyoverload.com.

METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?

FREQUENCY OVERLOAD: FREQUENCY OVERLOAD brings fun, hooky, heavy, and diverse metal with a powerful pro delivery. With a diverse and energetic live performance, it’s sure to be on the top of your list. Expect fun, powerful, sing along metal anthems as well as treks through the darkness of the mind.

METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?

FREQUENCY OVERLOAD: 5 years, 5 albums, that’s the immediate goal. As we have experienced such positive feedback we are currently recording our 2nd album. In addition to that we are cultivating relationships in and out of the US. These should bring us festival opportunities and intelligently selected live performance venues. We look forward to carving out our rightful place in the metal world. HERE IT COMES…..CAN YOU FEEL IT?
