Metal Anarchy’s New Music Showcase: Q&A With Flush

Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to artists that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have a Q&A with Flush.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:

FLUSH: Flush is a community rock band from Helsinki, Finland. With roots in punk rock, we blend alternative rock, metal, and grunge, to create songs that provide temporary safety and relief for our listeners. We write about real life; the good, the bad, the fun, and the sad; and always keep it real.

METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?

FLUSH: We started with Bad Religion, then brought on the full range of 90s alternative rock (Sonic Youth, Pavement, Soundgarden, Helmet, Rage Against the Machine, Dinosaur Jr, etc etc), but have always aimed to stay current as there is tons of great new music created every day. Biffy Clyro, The Hold Steady, Against Me! and Deftones are among our biggest influences too. Lyrically, we aim to explore the same themes that e.g. Charles Bukowski, Craig Finn (The Hold Steady), and Scott Hutchison (Frightened Rabbit) have written about. Scars, holes and cracks are where the light gets in.

METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?

FLUSH: Our second full-length album ‘Noises’ comes out November 29th 2024 and is released worldwide by Wormholedeath Records. The first single ‘Headspinner’ is already out and single nr 2 ‘Dive’ comes out November 8th. It’s a significant evolution for us in how we approach and create our music. The themes are the same as always; depression, anxiety, love, heartbreak, sex, alcohol, and death; and the songs blend all the things we want to hear in music ourselves: Heavy riffs, sing-along choruses, moments of psychedelia, and big soundscapes. Production wise this is bigger and tighter than before, and we’ve written the songs for the stage.

METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?

FLUSH: A community of people gathering for that one moment to heal together to the sounds of a loud rock band. Some like to get in the pit, others prefer to listen with concentration, and many like to have a few drinks and have fun. It’s all good to us. Come as you are, be one with us, and then leave feeling a little bit lighter.

METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?

FLUSH: We barely know where we are in one year from now! We’ll let the music and the people guide us, and see where they take us. But join us for the ride. Together it’ll be more fun!
