Metal Anarchy’s New Music Showcase: Q&A With Contortion

Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to artists that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have a Q&A with Contortion.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:

CONTORTION: Contortion is a diverse metal band based out of Southern California.

We blend multiple genres of metal to create a fluid and dynamic sound that tends to appeal to most any metal fan.

METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?

CONTORTION: Being that we are a diverse metal band, our influences range wildly. From the older originates of Thrash (Slayer/Megadeth) to the modern and cutting edge (Within the Ruins/After the Burial).

We love so many different bands, there is not one specific subgenre that one can pin to Contortion, nor any one influence.

Often times we are compared to Machine Head, DevilDriver, or Lamb of God… but it depends on who you ask. Many reviews we received on this latest album have made some rather interesting comparisons, all ranging wildly depending on the listener.

METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?

CONTORTION: “The Common Thread” is our latest album, and took us quite some time to write and record.

It is a beautiful work of art that took us through 4 studios, numerous producers, about a dozen guest performances, and countless hours to create.

It’s a testament to how versatile our music can be. Especially when one attributes the notable names that gave their time and talent to this record. Members of Cattle Decapitation, Allegaeon, Butcher Babies, Ill Niño, God Forbid, Mower, Angra, and others all believed in what we were working on, and helped make this album a phenomenal experience for both us, and the audience.

METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?

CONTORTION: Intensity. Brutality. Unadulterated Contorted Metal.

The outfits are pretty fly, too.

METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?

CONTORTION: We’d love to be touring with some of our favorite headliners. 🤘 Carving out a path to become headliners ourselves.
