Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to artists that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have a Q&A with Øresund Space Collective.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:
ØRESUND SPACE COLLECTIVE: The Øresund Space Collective (ØSC), were formed in 2004 as a music collective making totally improvised space rock. Initially it was only members from the Danish band Mantric Muse and the Swedish band, Bland Bladen but over the next years, members from other Danish and Swedish band would join in (Gas Giant, Carpet Knights, The Univerzals, Siena Root, and many more). We started playing live in 2005 and have toured all over Europe but playing the most in Denmark, Finland and Germany. We have released 32 studio albums and 12 live albums as well as a few live DVDs.
METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?
ØRESUND SPACE COLLECTIVE: As a band, Hawkwind, Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead, CAN, Ozric Tentacles, Alien Planetscapes, Black Sabbath… On a personal level, Klaus Schulze, Tangerine Dream, Doug Walker (Alien Planetscapes)….
METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?
ØRESUND SPACE COLLECTIVE: Our latest studio album was called “Orgone Unicorn” and released on the US label, L Lasers Edge last July. It is a really unique and cool album with Proggy stuff, space stuff, sitar jam, heavy electro funk… Quite a diverse and long album. We also have a vinyl version of one of our older records coming out in December called “Relaxing in the Himalayas” on SRP. A new DVD from the Crescendo Prog festival 2022 is also out in November 2024. Our next studio album on Space Rock Productions will be out in Spring 2025 called Alotta hella down in Estrela.
METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?
ØRESUND SPACE COLLECTIVE: After Covid, we have not been playing that many concerts due to where we all live and the expense and not being able to cover the costs but when we do get to play, we usually play 2-3 sets and 2-3hrs of music. We set up and just jam. We do not have any songs so every concert is totally unique to that night. We record all our shows and put them up on the archive.org for free. If we can we like to have a psychedelic light show as well. Our next shows are in April 2025 to celebrate our 20th anniversary of playing live. Copenhagen April 11-12th, 2025 at Stengade. Tickets are on sale now. We will also play the Spaceboat in Hamburg, Germany on May 23-24th, our 10th anniversary of the spaceboat. Wow..
METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?
ØRESUND SPACE COLLECTIVE: Good question. We try to have a new studio session every year after I built a professional studio in Portugal next to my house. We have 2 new studio albums completely finished except the final artwork, we have 2 more mixed but not titles or artwork. We plan to have a new studio session in December, where we will also make the soundtrack to a short animated film. We have another DVD (Kozfest 2023) finished. I hope that new and interesting musicians will also join the collective to make music and that our music will make people happy and forget the crazy world we live in… thanks for the opportunity to chat… Peace and heavy rock….
